Come on now β darting across the dates of a regular calendar each month is a bit blah. Especially when the summer is about to blast through your door, you need a more exciting plan than simply date-monitoring. You need a slick movie calendar.
Here at Pawns, we keep an eye on the best flicks apart from helping you earn passively. In celebration of the wonders of summer, we’ve made a list of the most exciting movie releases that will make this summer even hotter. From Deadpool & Wolverine to Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga and Inside Out 2, we babble about some fantastic scenes. So, let’s see which of these directed treats you’ll be getting your screen summer tan from!
Movie Picks
Let’s bring some fantastic on-screen storylines. So, what are we watching during the month of cherries and scenic green landscapes?
Bad Boys: Ride or Die
Martin Lawrence and Will Smith will have to pull their detective sleeves up for the fourth time. Our boys will be battling corruption living in their department, waking up in a twisted reality where they are the bad guys. And their captain will be accused of wrongdoings after he dies. Will they manage to smith their good names back? π
Hit Man
Imagine being in love with someone who wants you to send someone else to Cerberus β isn’t that scary? Well, in this fantastic comedy, it’s an excellent source of laughter. You’ll see our favorite Glen going undercover to catch some mean people, playing a hitman, until it hits him that love finds β or hits you π β in the most unexpected of times.
The Watchers
A dark forest and something like a shelter β one immediately asks if there any creatures roaming around for the extra horror flavor? And, of course, the answer is yes, and they are very mysterious. In this movie, you’ll see a woman trapped in the woods, running into β this is not the scary part π β other survivors trapped in the shelter, and then the story unwraps.
Inside Out 2
Hello there, Riley fans! We bet none of the other summer movie releases makes you happier than the Inside Out sequel. Some movies can give you anger, fear, or disgust, but this one is a pure joy to watch. π Especially because Amy Poehler will be returning to voice Joy as she tries to show adolescent Riley the pinks of life, battling new emotions along the way.
The Bikeriders
Slow ride! Take it easy and find a shade in Jeff Nichols’ latest achievement, The Bikeriders, in the hot sun! Relationships and friendships can be a rally or a decade-long drift retold by the members of a fictional motorcycle club, as seen in this 1960s-based tale. It’ll show you through the highway of an era that today lives only in photobooks and nostalgia.
Fancy Dance
Features about missing persons tend to make our hearts beat faster. And when you have a fresh Oscar winner to spin a yarn for you, it gets even better! We’re glad Lily Gladstone, who’ll go live as a Native American, took the responsibility of taking us on her quest as a woman looking for her missing sister together with her niece.
Kinds of Kindness
Who can refuse lots of well-shot frames with lots of stars in them? We surely can’t, and Emma Stone is here to keep us super engaged! Together with Margaret Qualley and Willem Dafoe, she’ll grant us an anthology of three distinct stories worth investing in extra popcorn supplies. Will this be an Oscar-winning joy like last year’s Poor Things? We can’t wait to see.
Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1
Kevin Costner went wild this time: he popped on a horse and shot himself during a gallop across the Western plateaus for a beautiful theatrical release! The American West will witness an expansion on screen. But, we’ll not fast forward through the Civil War era. Instead, we’ll be carefully eyeing all the revolutionary riots happening on the vast, dusty grounds for three immersive hours!
A Quiet Place: Day One
Shhh. Because if you don’t shhh, the aliens from this release might confuse you for a snack! Like in the movie’s sequel, they hunt by sound. This time, however, we’ll join forces with a woman fighting to stay alive throughout the primary invasion, now directed by Michael Sarnoski. It could be a fantastic blockbuster to watch if your neighbors insist on you keeping the noise down. π
Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F
We’ve all been mourning the final on-screen appearance of Detective Axel Foley for 30 years. Luckily, Eddie Murphy will, for a fourth time, embody our favorite cop! In this sequel of the franchise, the Detroit hero will go back to LA to uphold the law and untangle a big conspiracy together with his daughter and other spicy characters.
Despicable Me 4
The mini yellows will be taking over the cinematic world in 2025! Gru and Lucy, the best parents in the Minion kingdom, will get Gru Jr! Although adding more yellow to their lives will be exciting for Lucy, he and their adoptive daughters will be dealing with a criminal willing to harm them. It’s but a fun yellow story that will make you want more banana (hungry for more). π
MaXXXine
This year, Ti West will be finalizing his horror trilogy, continuing the story of Maxine, the sole survivor of X. Eager to be an acting star, she’ll leave for Los Angeles, where she might cross paths with the Night Stalker, notorious for being a horrifying serial killer. The movie is set in the 1980s and stars Mia Goth in the leading role.
Fly Me to the Moon
Are there scarlet stars? Could they have been the reason why Scarlett Johansson got hired to record a false landing on the moon back in the 1960s Space Race? Of course, it was just in case things went wrong, but with Channing Tatum as a hot NASA director, on-screen romance is far from fake. π Ready for the Apollo 11 to fly you to the TV moon?
Longlegs
Fans of the horror genre will find this flick captivating. The trailers don’t give away too much, which adds to the mystery of the movie’s events. Maika Monroe plays an FBI agent trying to catch Nicolas Cage, who plays a serial killer. The plot is set in 1974, and it brings to the surface the vintage as well as the agent’s link to the killer.
Sing Sing
Here’s a feel-good movie based on a true story about finding one’s purpose in life in the toughest of situations. It follows the story of a group of inmates serving their sentences in a New York maximum-security prison. Among them is a man who is convicted for something he hasn’t doneβthe stage production he and his friends put on gives everyone hope.
Twisters
The lightning is about to strike in the form of a blockbuster! L. I. Chung once cooked a frisky disaster thriller for us in 1996, and he’s in the mood to keep us on our toes once again. It will rain adrenaline from our TV screens as we gawk into the storm chasers in love with rare tornados and all the weather phenomena that make you squeak. π
Deadpool & Wolverine
One can tickle you to death, and the other probably has cracks in his suit from the jokes he makes. π How’s this muscly duo going to survive in the multiverse? In between high speeds and sharp claws, can these two protect it? The Time Variance Authority sure had something in mind when pairing two such boys, so let’s watch them black-eyeing some bad guys!
Cuckoo
The German Alps sound like a fantastic vacation destination or an isolated mountain range fit for a scary psychological horror. In August, break the fourth wall and ask Hunter Schafer which of the two it is! She’ll be a teen moving to the hills with her dad’s new family, and these peaks hide some unexpected secrets about his boss, which, of course, she’ll discover.
Harold and the Purple Crayon
August is a month of magic, especially if you know how to color. π Then, you can try to save the world like Harold, the titular character of the popular 1955 children’s book. His purple crayon will, unfortunately, roll over to the bad guys, which is a good thing β it’s a great basis for a fun family movie! We’ll see Zachary Levi starring as Harold.
The Instigators
What a cast, what a tale, what a heist. When one sees Matt Damon trying to make a robbery happen together with Casey Affleck, one makes a newspaper announcement about all their valuables immediately. π But these are polite guys, so they keep to their bad ways on-screen only. And it will all go wrong, and they’ll have to take their therapist as they’re trying to figure out a plan B.
Borderlands
Gamers, enjoy. Out of all summer movies, this is the one you can’t miss, even if only to give critical remarks about the misalignment between the details in the video games and the upcoming flick. And those who’ve never played the series can still give the movie a chance if they’re into noisier releases. Because this one will bombard your ears with different sounds.
Trap
Oh, no! Here, we’ll tremble with Josh Hartnett playing the role of a dad who takes his daughter to a concert. But he then learns that the police are trying to catch a serial killer! The trap is set, and they’re carefully waiting, and he’s right there, taking his daughter to a concert! Yes, the leading character of the movie is the murderer they’re looking for; what a story.
Alien: Romulus
Fede Γlvarez can’t disappoint β he knows the horror genre like the palm of his hand. The newest part of the Alien franchise follows a group of scavengers who exchange some gazes with aliens after finding a damaged space station. That should be enough for a fun scare. Still, we hope that there will be something new in the story to make it more interesting.
Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 2
The thrill continues! The second part of Horizon will be out soon after the first! We guess that Costner knows that you simply can’t leave fans on a cliffhanger for too long. π So, yes, the great tales of the Wild West will come back to catch our attention once more. So, prepare for an emotional early and not-so-early summer.
Blink Twice
Channing Tatum as a rich tech mogul? Yes, please! This dark comedy β and also a thriller β follows a moment in the life of two cocktail servers who go on a classy getaway. The party is held on an island that belongs to Tatum’s character. Things start taking a weird turn the moment they land foot on the island β intriguing much?
The Crow
Who’s excited to see Bill SkarsgΓ₯rd as a crow? π Well, okay, he’ll be playing THE Crow, so that might sound like something you want to watch. Rupert Sanders has some big directorial shoes to fill, so let’s see how he does in that regard. Other than that, the flick offers a new take on the classic story about a murdered man coming back to life for revenge.
They Listen
Last but not least entry in our summer movie calendar is They Listen. The moment we saw its name, we thought it was a horror movie, and we were right. The story? It remains a mystery! But we have to say that it stars some nice names, including John Cho and Katherine Waterston. It will probably be a fun watch.
Want Some Popcorn But Have No Spare Cash?
Watching movies is nice. However, if you want to go to the cinema, you’ll need money. It’ll be a shame to miss out on the summer fun because you’ve spent it all on other things! But if you get Pawns, you’ll have enough for those little pleasures that get regularly sidekicked in when you budget. So, get the app and make your summer smell like popcorn!
