Mmm — autumn! Crispy, crackling leaves, muddy puddles here and there, and a new, light jacket to keep you semi-toasty. And mmm — movies and shows to bring a cozy, digital closure to the breezy days of red, yellow, and brown!
Are you eyeing your remote controller eagerly and with slight suspicion, hoping for the best but worrying about trashy flicks? Well, you can keep the hope and lose all doubts. We have a fantastic list of the most anticipated TV shows this autumn! Yes, 2023 will be when 95% of the world’s popcorn is delivered to your doorway! Now, let’s dive into some on-screen intrigues.
1. The Wheel of Time: Season 2, Prime Video – Friday, Sept. 1
Enjoyed watching men in hoods and ladies wearing fantastic, medieval-like dresses in 2021? Then, you’d love to know that The Wheel of Time will be renowned for a second season! This adventure-loaded installment will continue introducing us to the world portrayed in Robert Jordan’s novels this fall. If you liked joining your favorite characters on a quest to find the Dragon Reborn, the show’s September comeback will knock your socks off.
You’ll get lost in threats you’ve never seen in the second season. However, some old dangers will also shake the lives of the friends from the Two Rivers, scattered everywhere in the world. Understanding that the lady who helped them is now powerless, they must find new sources of power. But where will that be? Will they choose the Light or succumb to the Dark side? We shall see.
2. The Morning Show: Season 3, Apple TV+ – Wednesday, Sept. 13
If there’s reason enough to glue yourself to the TV, it’s the Morning Show. The new season of this award-winning series will air this September, and it’s a must-watch! The fact that season two ended with everyone left on the brink of unemployment because of COVID-19 made the show a dancing cliffhanger. And that’s why we’re all stoked for the latest episodes — we need the drama and some answers!
Will the network survive? We can’t wait to see! A tech titan will, however, notice UBA’s value, stirring up trouble. Disloyalty will start sprouting in the newsroom. Alliances you’d never think of will form. Juicy secrets might see the light of day. Everyone will have to face the most profound truth about themselves at work and in their private lives. Are you down for a gripping, twisted plot?
3. Sex Education: Season 4, Netflix – Thursday, Sept. 21
This fall will also have a funny, funky, and highly — ahem — educational twist with the fourth and final season of Sex Education. Expectedly, we’ll see Otis (Asa Butterfield), Maeve (Emma Mackey), and the rest of the cast humorously moving through — second ahem — thick and thin, bringing us a wholesome glimpse at the beauty and hardships of the teen years. But this time, they’ll be attending the Cavendish Sixth Form College.
The new school will bring new, exciting beginnings for the former Moordale Secondary students. However, it’ll feel more like a cold shower in September. The new surroundings will shock even the most passionately progressive of the crew! You’ll hear Otis’s knees knocking as he’s setting up his clinic. You’ll see Eric praying to the teen gods to finally grant him and his friend some swag. It’ll be a spectacular series finale and probably one of the best fall TV shows 2023, if not the best!
4. Gen V: Season 1 (2023) Prime Video – Friday, Sept. 29
Into comedies and dramas? In that case, you should check out Gen V! Seriously, don’t look for other TV shows in the autumn of 2023! If The Boys was the series that got you into binge-watching, this one will probably get you a diploma in annoying your pals with superhero convos. But of course, that doesn’t concern you much, does it?
In fact, Gen V promises us all a thrilling walk-through around America’s one and only superhero college. The talented students attending it will see their morals tested as they compete for a higher status at the university. And there’s a lot at stake for these bad boys — the best of them get to join The Seven, an elite superhero team. On top of that, their school has some shady secrets to hide, and when these come to light, everyone has to decide the future of their morals.
5. Lupin: Season 3, Netflix – Thursday, Oct. 5
Start prepping your fall blankies because the third season of Lupin is coming this October! The latest installment of the French show, which was the most-watched Netflix program in January 2021, will be mind-blowing. Our favorite Assane Diop (Omar Sy) will once again impress us with his dark crafts, portraying a life similar to that of Maurice Leblanc’s book character, Arsène Lupin.
In the episodes to be released, the main protagonist must, unsurprisingly, hide, leaving his family behind. But we all know that this bad boy has a tender heart. And so, he will return to Paris, aiming to save them from the suffering he’s brought upon them. For the sake of our thirst for drama, he’ll even propose they leave France together and settle somewhere else! However, luckily for us, the audience, that won’t go so smoothly!
6. Loki: Season 2, Disney+ – Friday, Oct. 6
We know Loki won’t disappoint us! If anything, this mischief-driven guy is here to make Marvel history! He stole our hearts the moment we saw him plotting against Thor. That said, it’s no surprise Loki is the only Disney+ show the channel will renew for a second season. And needless to say, we, the naughty chaos seekers, are beyond lucky that that will happen!
The show’s second season allows us to explore the aftermath of the shocking finale from the previous installment. So, if you haven’t seen the first season, here’s the grand spoiler: Loki fights in a battle! Not much of a spoiler, right? Well, we won’t tell you more than that. However, we will tell you that your favorite TV character will navigate a seriously dangerous multiverse in the new season with Mobius and Hunter B-15!
7. Lessons in Chemistry, Apple TV+ – Friday, Oct. 13
Have you read Bonnie Garmus’s Lessons in Chemistry? If not, you should! Or, you can watch its Apple TV adaptation instead! Fun fact: The amazing Brie Larson is starring in it! She’ll be in the lead role, portraying Elizabeth Zott, an aspiring scientist. And for the record, she’s also the show’s executive producer. Therefore, we can substitute some October leaf clean-up sessions for fantastic scenes.
The show is set in the 1950s. It follows the life of Elizabeth Zott, who is navigating patriarchal terrains intending to become a female scientist. Unfortunately for her career, she gets fired from her lab and accepts to be a TV host on a cooking show. However, this is when things get better! She doesn’t only share recipes with lots of housewives but teaches everyone so much more!
8. All The Light We Cannot See, Netflix – Thursday, Nov. 2
Netflix will be rubbing us, the streamers, the right way all autumn! Slightly post-Halloween, the streaming platform is bringing us a new limited series called All the Light We Cannot See during the rainy season! And it’s a groundbreaking release. It tells the story of a blind French girl, Marie-Laure, and her dad, Daniel LeBlanc. The two flee Paris to escape the Nazis and prevent them from getting their hands on a diamond of monumental value.
The Gestapo wants to use the stone for their selfish means. But thankfully, the two refugees find shelter in St. Malo, managing to keep it safe. The relative who takes them in is also part of the resistance and secretly broadcasts about it on the radio. Therefore, if you want to glimpse the World War II era through a magical plot, it’s time to dust off your cozy movie-watching slippers!
9. Echo: Season 1, Disney+ – Wednesday, Nov. 29
Marvel fans are in for a treat this fall. Hawkeye‘s spinoff, Echo, will be released this November! Remember Maya Lopez (Alaqua Cox) from the Hawkeye? She’ll return in a new installment to get her well-deserved revenge! And this limited drama’s cast, writers, and directors are fantastic. Therefore, you can expect plenty of well-rounded TV action that will probably leave you sleepless!
The show will be streaming on the Disney channel only. Maya’s ruthless habits will finally get to her. Her dark New York past will mark the new life she has built in her hometown. Of course, she must deal with the demons she thought would never come to chase her. Moreover, she needs to return to her Native American roots and rediscover the value of family to heal. With a show like this, autumn is the new summer, isn’t it?
10. Squid Game: The Challenge, Netflix – TBD November
Intending to explore edgier TV shows this autumn? In 2023, you get what you want, baby! Squid Game will be the 10-episode reality competition series, and boy, will it be good. The show topped Netflix’s list of most popular series in this program’s history. If you want to see some pixelated bone-breaking in exciting ways, you’ll lose it over the hundreds of players competing!
The cash prize will be huge. Over 450 players will be willing to push their limits while chasing after a reward of $4.56 million! Some challenges will resemble the original ones, but there will also be new additions to spruce things up. Alliances will, of course, form, and everyone’s core values will be tested.
