Have you ever wondered what the most hated TV characters ever are? Well, we made a list of all 15 of them for you to unleash your inner show critic! Trust us — you’ll want to give these fictive personas the imaginary slap of the century! We already did that in the article, so read on!

Ramsay Bolton (Game of Thrones)

Here’s a cringeworthy character that repels mythical dragons and real-world GoT fans. Despised by many, Ramsay Bolton wasn’t following a heavy political agenda to boost his influence. Instead, he was a monstrosity incarnate. For real, he earned his unrepairable reputation. He put Theon Greyjoy through the perils of the century and did unspeakable things to Sansa Stark! How can we not loathe such a prick?

Well done, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss. Bolton was a fictive dude that we were supposed to dislike. Does that mean we forgive him for the killing spree he went on? Of course not! But it did make the show’s storyline richer. In a terrible, horrible way, but it still worked. His unforgivable actions make us frown at the thought of him years after GoT’s final season.

Ross Geller (Friends)

Just look at this guy! How can one not want to look away every time he shows up on the screen? It’s not his appearance — we could argue that his visual aesthetics work fine for many peeps. It’s that he’s inexplicably irritating, going through life with a sigh-worthy victim complex!

Did the other protagonists treat him unfairly season after season? Maybe so. But it was him the audience was allergic to when he was on a break with Rachel! And no one pitied him when Joey and Chandler were noisy to the bone in their apartment! He was just a sloppy revival of the “nice guy” trope of the ‘90s.

Skyler White (Breaking Bad)

Hitting it off with the female protagonists, this girl is a bad character one cannot ignore. This fierce lady wasn’t much of a troublemaker. This fact is something to appreciate when you want a couple of quarrel-free TV moments. But here comes the big “however:” Skyler made Walter’s criminal affairs a pain to watch even though some of these were convenient to her.

Whenever Walt was to break bad, there she was, willing to protect her close ones. And although that’s the reasonable thing to do, it wasn’t the way to leave us drenched in adrenaline. In the end, even Walter grew to resent her! So, yes, she did her job pointing out the disadvantages of his plans time after time, but what a party pooper!

Paige Jennings (The Americans)

The Americans is not a show that puts morality on a pedestal. Instead, obtaining the principles of human decency is always in the shadow of being loyal to people and causes. Because of that, show buffs didn’t adore Paige, the series’ goody-two-shoes. Let’s face it — no one enjoys the choices of a pure-hearted angel when it’s time for some inner-demon pampering!

What did this high school lady do when she learned her parents were Russian spies? She began wallowing in petulance. And we get it — Joel Fields and Joe Weisberg, the show’s creators, wanted to infuse it with some contradiction. Still, that and the girl’s overly intimate relationship with Tim, the pastor, made fans want her written off.

Jeremy Jamm (Parks and Recreation)

This show was to woo everyone with Leslie Knope, her coworkers, and everything about them. That said, it’s understandable how an unpolite guy like Jeremy has caused so much hatred in the show’s viewer base. This sleazy protagonist who imposes on people is de facto one of the most hated TV characters of all time!

No one invites him anywhere, and yet he shows up everywhere. Neither his sense of humor can outweigh his annoying traits. And as if that isn’t enough, he does so to ruin things! Why else would he interrupt Ben and Leslie’s wedding, after all? He did get a well-deserved face punch, though — a treat to everyone itching for such a payback.

Piper Chapman (Orange Is the New Black)

Think of the color orange, and you’ll see the trying memories of an old TV series pop up. Keep thinking longer; you’ll want to throw rotten oranges at the show’s main protagonist, Piper Chapman. The show was related to Piper Kerman’s heartfelt, striking memoir, and we dig that. However, the on-screen character didn’t live up to her life-changing prisoner uniform.

Did Taylor Schilling fail to properly introduce us to the intricacies of jail life in each episode? We don’t believe so. However, the side characters were a gazillion times more interesting to watch. And this was a fact that even the show’s creators couldn’t ignore. Chapman was but a privileged drag that was self-unaware to the point of annoyance.

Janice Soprano (The Sopranos)

Oh, Janice. Oh, good, ol’ Janice. We can’t say she was the best person on The Sopranos, nor was she a villain. If anything, she posed as a harmonic healer, but boy, was she angry! In fact, Tony and she had similar anger issues to share. So, what did she do to deserve such viewer hate?

Well, for one, the show was Tony-pro, and Janice attacked him often. Much like her mother, she did him plenty of wrongs. And no one likes seeing their favorite mafioso shattered to pieces after family quarrels! The second reason for getting negative reviews had to do with her being a hypocrite. Remember her “clipping” annoying, sleazy Ralphie and calling her brother to get rid of the evidence later?

Andy Bernard (The Office)

Most of us watched Andy Bernard strut around his workplace and concluded that he’s utterly obnoxious. Some called him a buffoon. Others used milder insults, like “office trumpet.” In each case, he received an avalanche of adverse reactions for his loony-like singing and foolishness. Did he receive any sympathy because Jim was degrading him in season three, though? No, and with a reason.

The entire series saw Andy acting like a goose flapping its wings for attention and comedic emphasis. However, by the show’s end, he became nothing but a jerk! Now, the progression from irritatingly humorous to downright cocky wasn’t something that rubbed us right! If anything, it made us low-key crave the annoying guy with some redeeming qualities he once was!

Marnie Michaels (Girls)

Was there ever a more selfish character than Marnie Michaels? We don’t think so! This Girls protagonist thought of nothing but herself, which, after a while, becomes a pattern no binge-watcher enjoys. Moreover, she was a liar and cheater and used almost everyone to live the life she wanted. And with no charm to back all that mess up, she quickly became a hated character.

Still, her role on the show was essential. We might not want to admit that, but this annoying lady was Hanna’s BFF. We wouldn’t have been even close to comprehending Hanna’s character if it wasn’t for Marnie. She was the necessary evil that had to wrap up the show’s storyline for certain revelations to happen.

April Nardini (Gilmore Girls)

Seeing the next protagonist on our list of most hated TV characters might surprise many. However, back in the day, folks around the globe preferred watching commercials whenever April showed up on their screens! This poor kid was there only to keep Lorelai and Luke apart. Still, fans of the show didn’t find that appealing.

Sure, she was annoying, which viewers often disapprove of when it comes to TV protagonists. Her behavior was barely tolerable at times. In fact, she was, in a unique way, similar to young Rory. And if Rory wasn’t the definition of annoyance, we don’t know what was. It seems the crowds dislike cheering for sulky adolescents, even when their glasses are kind of cute.

Ted Mosby (How I Met Your Mother)

Ted. Unfortunately, he was a character we all grew tired of way too quickly. And we aren’t exaggerating — most of us were displeased with Ted’s whining and picky personality after just two seasons! Still, many say the dude gave the series an edge. Although irritating, his flaws made the rest of the characters more interesting.

The show wasn’t a massive failure since the storyline shifted from Ted to the rest of the cast. Yes, many folks argued that it was on for longer than necessary. However, there were still quite a few compelling moments in it. The ending wasn’t the cherry on the cake everyone was hoping for, though. That was due to Ted being an uncared-for main protagonist.

Cousin Oliver Tyler (The Brady Bunch)

Has there ever been a more unpopular TV character than Cousin Oliver Tyler from The Brady Bunch? Probably not. Poor kid. After four seasons, the show created a new protagonist to drive up ratings. Unfortunately for the cute, blond kiddo, however, things didn’t go as planned, and the series ended after its fifth season.

Instead of giggling at the brave youngster, fans quickly saw through the producers’ intentions. Eventually, the term “Cousin Oliver,” inspired by this character, began entertaining the public. Not familiar with this term? People use it when a show introduces a new, younger character to improve viewership. However, this rarely works, and it certainly didn’t for this TV show.

Homelander (The Boys)

We all wanted to like Homelander. There was something extraordinary about him, so we hoped that his arc was an upward one. And we were wrong. The hatred surrounding him grew too strong for the character to get a fair trial. Soon, he was, by definition, a character many loathe, and there was no turning back; he would remain an object of hate forever.

An interesting satire of superheroes, Homelander is everything that Superman is, but only on the outside. If you are to peep into his inner beauty — or lack of, in this case — you’ll see nothing. He’s but an empty vessel of superficial heroism that can destroy everything in the world. He’s pompous, thinks too highly of himself, and frankly, the invincibility he portrays is often tiresome.

Kimmy Gibbler (Full House)

How a feel-good show like Full House got to create one of the most loathed characters in TV history is still a mystery to many. Still, the audience was loud and clear in their stance: they disliked Kimmy Gibbler. Again, this show has a storyline that thrives on goodwill and kindness. Yet, many found Kimmy irritating.

The point is, however, that the purpose of this character was to be a thorn in everyone’s eye. Therefore, the actress playing it (Andrea Barber) isn’t to take any blame for its unlikability. In fact, she did get a second chance to portray Kimmy in Fuller House. That only proves she had nothing to do with the hatred the character faced in the first series.

Joffrey Baratheon (Game of Thrones)

Last but not least — Joffrey Baratheon. Yikes! This fictional person might be the only annoying character on our list that fully deserves to be hated. He’s such a mean fella! And the fact that he’s in a position of power only highlights the worst of him! All he did from season to season was torment everyone he set eyes on only to entertain himself.

Like many famous antagonists, Joffrey, too, lacked outrageousness. His best “trait” was the crown on his head. Still, he looked more like a royal clown than blue blood wearing it. And he’d always succumb to his cowardly ways whenever a fight was to arise. His poisoning satisfied many, offering fans a cathartic release after three seasons of unbearable agony.

Some protagonists are likable and loveable; others live long enough to become the most hated TV characters ever. After all, all of them are but a glimpse into the real world and the values we support. Earning enough for a comfortable life sure is one of these!
